Thiruvananthapuram: A complete medical check-up conducted earlier this week on Sunanda Pushkar, who was found dead in a Delhi hotel on Friday night, showed that she was not suffering from any serious health problem, doctors at a super-speciality hospital here said on Saturday.
A team of doctors, who analysed the results of a series of tests she underwent at the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital here, said the results did not show that she suffered from any serious illnesses.
"We cannot find that she had been suffering from any serious health problems....Like any other person these days, she had come for a complete check up...She had been given only simple medicines," eminent cardiologist Dr G Vijayaraghavan, who headed the team of doctors, told reporters after a meeting of the medical board at KIMS here.
The board met and reviewed the test results following the death of Sunanda, the wife of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor.
Dr Vijayaraghavan said he could not divulge details of the check up and the results as that would involve the risk of encroaching upon the privacy of the patient.
Sunanda was admitted in the hospital on January 12 and discharged on January 14. Her husband was also with her. Doctors and other hospital staff who met her said she appeared "comfortable" during her stay in the hospital.
Her plan was to come back for a `review` after one week with the investigation results pending.
Detailed information on her medical condition had been passed on to Sunanda and her husband, a hospital release said. A spokesman for Tharoor said Sunanda`s cremation would take place at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi.
Sunanda`s son Shiv is already in Delhi.
Tharoor`s sons - Ishaan and Kanishk - are expected to reach Delhi. The minister`s sister Smitha has also left for Delhi from London.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) state leader Kodieyri Balakrishnan demanded a `comprehensive` inquiry into the circumstances in which Sunanda was found dead.
The news of her death came as a shock to people in Thiruvananthapuram, from where Tharoor contested and won in his electoral debut in 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
Congress in the state is yet to react to the development as most of its leaders like Home Minister and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala are yet to return to the state from Delhi in connection with the AICC meeting.
Police had stepped up security at Tharoor`s constituency office in the city as soon as news of his wife`s death in a Delhi hotel spread.
The Tharoor couple, married in August 2010, were seen together at the famous Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple during the `Lakshadweepam` festival on January 14.
