New Delhi: Delhi BJP leader Vijay Jolly, who was booked for allegedly vandalising former Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury`s house, Tuesday, appeared before the National Commission for Women and apologised for his act.
"He presented himself before the Commission and apologised for what he had done outside Chaudhury`s house," NCW member in-charge of Goa, Shamina Shafiq told a news agency. "Explaining his action, Jolly said that he acted on the spur of the moment. But then we told him that other senior leaders of his party whom he had consulted, had told him not to go ahead with this, then how it could have happened on the spur of the moment. He had no answer for this," Shafiq said. Shafiq said the matter is being investigated by the police and law will take its own course. Chaudhury who had reached NCW to record her statement about her and Tehelka`s response in dealing with alleged sexual assault case against its editor Tarun Tejpal, had filed a complaint with the Commission regarding her house being vandalised allegedly by some BJP workers led by Jolly on December 1. Following which, Shafiq had asked Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi to register an FIR in this case and provide security to Chaudhury . Jolly was issued a show cause notice by NCW and an FIR in this regard was also registered at Saket police station under section 341 (Obstruction), 427 (Mischief), section 3 of the Prevention of Defacement of the Properties Act, 143 (Unlawful Assembly), 149 (part of unlawful assembly) against him and others.
