Won’t back Mamata’s no-trust move: CPI(M)

Zeenews Bureau Kolkata: CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Monday categorically rejected any possibility of his party supporting the no-confidence motion that Trinamool Congress intends to bring against the UPA government over FDI in retail. The party’s decision was announced by general secretary Prakash Karat. Incidentally another Left constituent CPI had, earlier in the day, claimed that they will not bail out the government if Mamata brings no-confidence motion against the UPA government on the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament on November 22. “If Mamata brings in the no-confidence motion, we will not bail out the government,” senior CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said. The BJP has already decided not to back Mamata, at least at this juncture. "What is the use of bringing the motion if it gets defeated? The Trinamool doesn`t have the numbers. Their leadership will have to decide how far they can go. All parties need to carefully chalk out the plan," senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Murli Manohar Joshi said here. "Numbers are important. If the motion gets defeated, then the government will relax for the next six months as you cannot bring another no-confidence motion during that period. We need to plan well," he said. However, a final decision on party’s stand on FDI would be clear after the BJP top brass meets tomorrow. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Saturday announced that her party would move a no-confidence motion on the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament Nov 22 and appealed to all parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left, to support the move.
