Mountain View, California: It’s been fifteen years since Larry Page and Sergey Brin launched Google at a garage in Menlo Park, California. From that humble beginning, Google has over the years emerged into world’s most loved search engine.
Although the Google filed for its incorporation on September 7, 1997, the website was officially launched on September 27, 1998.
The company, originally called ‘BackRub’, is now based in Mountain View, California. The iconic Googleplex at 1600 Amphitheatre parkway is located about seven miles from the 1,900-square-foot home where Page and Brin paid $1,700 per month to rent the garage and a bedroom.
After they made it big, their landlord was Susan Wojcicki joined in and is now a top Google executive. Wojcicki, now Brin’s sister-in-law, sold the home to Google in 2006 and it is now maintained as a monument.
Google now operates from more than 70 offices in more than 40 locations around the world.
