New York: Micro-blogging site Twitter has acquired social-media analytics company Hotspots.Io for an undisclosed sum.
"We're incredibly excited to announce that Twitter has acquired the Hotspots.Io team," Hotspots.Io said in a statement.
Following the acquisition, Hotspots' staff would join Twitter's revenue engineering team which would focus on developing new analytics tools for the social networking site's advertising and publishing partners.
"We founded Hotspots.Io with the vision of helping companies and individuals maximize their social media ROI (return on investment) through actionable and accessible analytics, and we're thrilled to be able to continue that work on a much larger scale at Twitter," Hotspots.Io said.
Twitter, created in 2006, is a communication platform allowing people across the world to interact instantly through 'tweets', or messages not exceeding 140 characters. It has more than 100 million active users worldwide.
Last month, Twitter had announced that it has acquired Posterous, a start-up firm in mobile blogging business. The social networking site had acquired internet security firm Dasient in January.
In December last year, Twitter received a combined investment of USD 300 million from Saudi Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud and his investment firm Kingdom Holding Company (KHC).
