Shillong: A Bangladesh-based militant was arrested by BSF from Meghalaya's West Khasi Hills district, defence sources said on Saturday.

Kumen Sangma, alias Bin Marak, a close aide of 'commander-in-chief' of Achik Social Dragon Party Marcos Marak, was apprehended on Thursday when he was trying to infiltrate into Indian territory, the sources said.

Sangma is a resident of Banglabita village under Sunamganj district of Bangladesh from where Marak hails.

According to BSF, Sangma was actively involved in trans-border activities of other outfits and had been earlier been aiding Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) which is under cease-fire in the state, the sources said.

Sangma was handed over to the district police, they added.
