Koraput (Odisha): Armed Maoists set
ablaze a telephone exchange and a mobile tower belonging to
the BSNL in Odisha`s Koraput district early on Sunday.
A group of Maoists stormed into the telephone exchange
situated at Onkadeli, around 60 km from here, under Machkund
police limits and poured kerosene all over the room before
setting it on fire, police said.
The mobile tower located at the site was also set
afire by the red rebels who disappeared into the nearby forest
after the attack, they said.
"There has been no report of any injury or casualty. The
Maoists had asked the lone watchman to vacant the office
before setting it on fire. The rebels have not left any poster
or banner at the site," said SDPO Sunabeda Ashok Pattnaik.
"No explosives were used to damage the mobile tower.
Additional force had been rushed to the spot after the
incident," he added.
Steps have been taken to intensify combing operation
in the area.
