London: Olympic high jump champion Ivan Ukhov has now turned his attention to breaking the world record, he said Wednesday.
Ukhov won Olympic gold for Russia Tuesday, clearing 2.38 metres.
His personal best is 2.40, five centimetres shy of Cuban athlete Javier Sotomayor`s 19-year-old world record, while Swede Patrick Sjoberg`s 25-year-old European record stands at 2.42.
"There`s still the world and European records, lots of them," Ukhov said when asked what his next goal would be, but was non-committal on the question of defending his Olympic title in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
.
"In four years` time we`ll see, but a second gold wouldn`t be bad," he said.
Ukhov will be 30 by the time of the next Olympics.
He has also won one world indoor and two European indoor titles, as well as a silver medal at the 2010 outdoor World Championships.
