Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that the fate of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf will be decided by the court and that both state and the constitution are party to the case. Musharraf, who is being accused of high treason for imposing emergency in 2007, was taken to a military cardiac hospital on Thursday over concerns about an unexplained heart condition. However, his lawyer later said that his condition is static but not dangerous. As per the reports, he might be flown abroad for a heart by-pass or an angioplasty as three vessels in his heart are blocked presently. Musharraf had deposed and imprisoned Sharif in a 1999 coup. On the other hand Nawaz Sharif, who was elected as prime minister in May insisted on seeing Musharraf being tried on treason charges. This led to speculation of a rift between the government and military. If found guilty, Musharraf may face death penalty or life imprisonment. The move to try Musharraf for high treason came when he was granted bail in other criminal cases against him, including the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, killing of Baluch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti and the siege of Lal Masjid in Islamabad in 2007.
