Gyanendra's India visit fuels speculation in Nepal

Kathmandu: An extended private visit of Nepal's ousted king Gyanendra has sparked speculation here, amid the political crisis that has stalled the peace process in the country.

Gyanendra is in New Delhi for over two weeks following a vist to Jaipur for a private function. Although his India visit was earlier scheduled for two weeks, his stay in India has been extended beyond one month, fueling speculation here. The visit of the former monarch to India comes amid the stalled 2006 peace process.

Gyanendra's personal aide Sagar Timilsina told Kantipur daily that the ex-monarch has extended his stay in Delhi for personal work, withour giving any details.

According to the daily, Gyanendra was seeking "political meetings" in Delhi.

Guna Raj Luitel of the Annapurna Post daily saw a link between the prolonged stay of Gyanendra in Delhi and the current political deadlock in Kathmandu.

The prolonged stay of Gyanendra in Delhi and the ongoing political deadlock in Nepal are not just coincidences, he said.

Pointing to the daily hardship facing the people due to lack of essential items, such as cooking gas, petroleum products and 12 hour daily power cuts, he said: "It has only worsened the situation in which people have begun to lose faith in the democratic system."

Against this is the failure of the government to conclude the peace process, he said.

The paralysis has fuelled public anger in what is one of the world's poorest nations -- all a far cry from the euphoria and optimism that followed the end of the civil war and the abolition of the unpopular monarchy.

This is the third visit to India by Gyanendra after the monarchy was abolished in Nepal in May 2008.

Fine, if united Nepal does develop under monarchy then let’s welcome with our hearts wide open! But for god’s sake, please let us stop talking about SHAH dynasty again. We had in history, very fine kings who ruled and flourished Nepal under them. Malla, Kirant, Lichhabi, Ghale, Mustange etc etc, in fact the Kirants who ruled over 32 generations are noteworthy if to recall back to history. Let’s support and bring one of them if it really is to be the monarchy again. Black, white, red or whatever, whoever comes to power it is the same always and never changes our expectation. Certainly there is something missing that needs to be implemented for Nepal get going ahead, and I strongly feel that it is the DISCIPLINE we are craving for! Who can discipline us (the politicians, the pen pushers and the people from all walks of life)? May be an autocrat, democrat, etc etc? Whatever system works to discipline us, let us implement it even if we have to suffer now but it is worth later on. Come on Rame, Shyame, Chyame or Jhale Male, DO IT NOW. We are really fade up!

Mr. Dirgha: Whatever your logic is to bring Gyanendra back. Gyanendra is simply a crook and he does not deserve from any perspective to get back to this throne.

Dear Editor, King Gyanendra is one of the responsible king to creat peace between Nepal and India. The visit of the king is not for begging. He wants the establishment of Nepalese sovereiugntity with monarch. The country is standing on the verge of dismemberment in the last five years. Nepal has been always showing goodwill towards India. Cordial people to people level relations between Nepal and India has existed since ancient times. We have to keep friendly relations with India due to our similar cultural and religious traditions. But, since 2005, the cordial situation is humiliating day by day between Nepal & India. The permanent institution- `Monarchy` can put unites the cordial relation between Nepal & India. In between the two big neighbors-China & India, the monarchy had been playing a balanced role. Nepalese monarchial system has been supporting-`One China policy`- Tibet as an integral part of China. If monarchial democratic system is not Nepal, China comes with communism for its security. So India should demand to reinstate the manarchial democracy with Hindu Kingdom nor India will convet as a terorrist communist state. OK ? Thank you. Dirgha Raj Prasai
