Insurgents` attack ends in Afghan south Kabul: An attack on two southern Afghan bases used by foreign troops ended on Friday after four insurgents were killed, local police and a spokesman for NATO-led coalition forces said.

The attack on a military and civilian provincial reconstruction team in Kandahar province began on Thursday and lasted more than 15 hours.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack that included the use of rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.

An Afghan interpreter working for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force was also killed, said ISAF spokesman Christopher Dewitt. Five ISAF service members were wounded as well as one US civilian contractor and two Afghan security guards.

Kandahar city, 480 km (300 miles) southwest of the capital, Kabul, and surrounding districts remain some of the most insecure areas of Afghanistan despite more than a year of offensives by coalition and Afghan troops.
