Malala`s family gets interview requests

London: Pakistani teenage rights activist Malala Yousufzai, who is recovering at a hospital here after being shot in the head by the Taliban for advocating girls` education, has received numerous requests for interviews and publishing deals. In a statement, the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust today said it has and continues to receive numerous requests for interviews, documentary opportunities and publishing deals with 15-year-old Malala and her family. All approaches are being logged chronologically. Malala`s father Ziauddin has decided that at this stage he and the family are not in a position to consider any of the requests or be interviewed by any media. He told the Trust that this situation will not change until after Malala has recovered from reconstructive cranial surgery. "Yousufzai has indicated that the family is intending to tell their story but when and to whom is yet to be decided. At that stage all of the requests will be put to them and discussed." The Trust said that Malala has not and will not receive any visitors apart from her immediate family until it is clinically appropriate. The hospital, where the rights activist is being treated, said: "Malala Yousufzai remains in a stable condition in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham." Malala was shot on October 9 by Taliban militants when she was returning from school. Two of her classmates were also injured in the attack. The Taliban wanted to eliminate her as she had been leading a campaign for girls` education in the Swat valley near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. PTI
