Musharraf has not fled; safe at home: Spokesperson

Islamabad/New Delhi: Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf reportedly fled from a court in the country`s capital to avoid arrest after his bail was revoked on Thursday. However, one of his close aides later claimed that the Musharraf had not fled but only returned to his home. Musharraf’s close associate Raza Bokhari, who calls himself ‘President Musharraf`s North American Point of Contact’ on Twitter, told a news channel, “President Musharraf, ever since deciding to return to Pakistan for the sake of Pakistan had anticipated that such unwarranted judicial activism could be activated against him.” The court rejected Musharraf’s bail in a case related to his decision to suspend the constitution and declare a state of emergency in 2007. "It is unwarranted and unprecedented. The court has not acted with wisdom. He has not fled the court; he has been escorted by a heavy machinery of Pakistani forces. He is safely at his home under the protection of Pakistan government,” Bokhari said, adding that to allude that Musharraf has fled would be misrepresentation of facts. Bokhari, who is also known as Musharraf’s spokesperson, stressed that the former army general has not returned to Pakistan under any deal and will pursue legal channels that is in front of him.
