Hamilton: Though most of the Indian spectators who came to cheer the Indian team in the second ODI at Hamilton were disappointed as India lost the match, Jatinder Singh was certainly an exception among all.
An Indian origin New Zealander, Jatinder came to Hamilton to support the visiting team and somehow managed to get a one-handed catch outside the ropes when pinch-hitter Corey Anderson launched Ishant Sharma for six over long-on. Jatinder took an outstanding catch from his right hand and was himself surprised after taking it.
Under a promotional scheme (event) being run by a local beverage company, if a spectator took a one-handed catch which sailed past the boundary, he or she will be rewarded with a whopping sum of Rs 52 lakhs. And a blinder of a catch made Jatinder a winner of it.
First crowd gave a warm applaud to Jatinder for his wonderful catch and then suddenly he was mobbed by the spectators who congratulated him and even asked for his autographs as well. In fact, Anderson and his batting partner at that time Ross Taylor also enjoyed the incident when it came on the big screen immediately afterwards.
The youngster suddenly got the fame with that catch and looked quite ecstatic about it.
“To be honest, I got up and didn’t think it was going to make it as far as me. I thought it was going to land short, so then I sort of gave up on it, and then it kept going and next thing I know it was in my right hand. Really, it happened so fast. I started jumping up and down, that’s not me. Normally I am quite reserved,” Jatinder stated while talking to an English daily.
