Protect your women: EU tells Pak, Afghanistan Strasbourg: The European Parliament has asked Pakistan and Afghanistan to pay immediate attention to the crimes against women and advised them to ensure better laws to protect their basic human rights.

The parliament is deeply concerned about the situation of women and girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan, it said in a statement here Friday.

Women's rights must be addressed in all human rights dialogues, and in particular the issue of combating all forms of violence against women and girls, the statement said.

This included all forms of harmful traditional or customary practices, early or forced marriage, domestic violence and feminicide.

The invocation of any custom, tradition or religious consideration of any kind in order to evade the duty to eliminate such brutality be rejected, it stressed.

The European Parliament members paid tribute to Afghan women for playing a crucial role in nation building, especially to Massouda Jalal, an international human rights activist and former Afghan minister for women affairs.

They lauded the positive developments in the form of appointments of women to high-ranking political and administrative positions in Afghanistan.

However, the parliament also said it is deeply concerned that despite all the progress made, Afghan women and girls continue to be victims of domestic violence, trafficking, forced marriages, and being traded in settlement of disputes.

With regard to Pakistan, the members expressed deep concern about the handling of the court cases against Asia Bibi, Mukhtar Mai and Uzma Ayub, "which could further erode faith in Pakistan's justice system and embolden those who seek to violate the rights of women".

Asia Bibi, a Pakistani Christian woman, was convicted of blasphemy by a Pakistani court. She was sentenced to death. The verdict, which needs to be upheld by a superior court, has received worldwide attention.

Mukhtar Mai, a Pakistani gang rape victim, won international acclaim as a campaigner for women's rights, while Uzma Ayub, another Pakistani rape victim, had miraculously escaped from her captors while being six months pregnant. She has vowed to seek justice come what may.

I don`t agree on lecturing by Europeans as they have been brutal during the colonisation period and the neo colonisalism! Nevertheless, women rights as those of minorities need to be respected in every society. The hypocrite muslim clerics can`t be counted on to increase women rights!

First of all let us analyze that who is responsible for all the situation in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Palestine, to name the few. Americans and Western Army, Air Force, Navy, Miliary, they are disturbing the civil life of many countries like this by unwanted and unwarranted war. Now the life in these countries are measurable...for any human being forget about the women alone. Now they wake up to show sympathy to women while the killed their husband and leave them for the open society. And what about western women are they really safe...??? In the name of freedom they are doing sex with Dogs...and women is marrying women while man is marrying man..Is this there name of freedom..?? In the name of fashion they take out the cloths of women to almost nude apprearence...What is this??? They are leaving their father and mother to Old Age Sanitorium...to Live Secluded Life...These are people who are not even able to care about their own father and mother are talking about others women protection is something very silly and shamful..God Bless Them...Becouse they don`t know what they are doing...and for whom....???

Say whatever to push the issue under the carpet, but you cant hide the truth... You are just trying to draw a bigger line beside an existing line to make it smaller... God bless you.... You dont respect a women, and you will never prosper in life... Thats the reason entire Arab world is suffering, for they treat woman as a means to satisfy the male hunger

With respect to all the religion, I Invite Mr. Ajay to Read the Holy Quran and Hadith to know what exactly women placed in Islam....Sorry to say we don`t have Dev Dasis devoted to Mandir for the satisfactions of Pujaries...Or Nuns in the churct to sacrifies lives in the name of relgion...and we never had the Sati System where women were force to burn alive with husband. and we even don`t forbid women to marry again when her husband die...while in your religion women even if she lost her husband in the young age..can not marry again...is this all justice to women...Mr. Ajay God will definetly bless you when you check the reality....
