New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra has said that India will not be able to host the Delhi leg of the Queen`s Baton Relay.
In a letter to the Organising Committee of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Malhotra has expressed the association’s inability to host the event due to Dusshera celebrations and the ongoing turmoil in the IOA.
The Delhi leg of the Queen`s Baton Relay has been scheduled for October 13 and Malhotra has asked the organisers for an alternate date.
So far, they haven’t received a reply from the organisers.
According to a leading Indian daily, Malhotra has cited IOA`s suspension as the main reason behind postponing the event as IOA hasn’t got time to prepare at all.
The Queen’s baton relay is the Olympic equivalent of Torch relay. It will start from Buckingham Palace on October 9 and its first international stop will be Delhi – the host of the previous Commonwealth Games.
