Bhopal: The NCP-Congress combine would have won the recent Assembly polls in Maharashtra even if MNS led by Raj Thackeray had not contested it, AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh said here on Friday.

"It is totally wrong to assume that the Congress and the NCP won the Maharashtra elections only because of the presence of MNS," Singh told a news agency.

He said the MNS had cut into votes not only of Shiv Sena and BJP but also of the Congress and NCP.

The Congress leader who had camped in Mumbai for about two weeks before the assembly elections said that the polls were a rejection of communal politics and hatred.
