Lucknow braces for BSP mega rally

Lucknow: Huge cutouts of Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati and other dalit leaders adorn the city as it braces itself for a mega rally to be organised by the BSP on March 15 to mark the silver jubilee of its formation.

Adequate police, commandos and intelligence sleuths will keep a constant vigil as hectic preparations are afoot for the rally to be held at Ramabai Ambedkar ground.

Around 20 lakh BSP workers from across the country are likely to attend the rally on March 15, also the birthday of party's founder Kanshiram.

A temporary city has been set up at Smriti Upvan, spread over an area of 60 acres, for the purpose, party sources said.

Different blocks, named after dalit leaders like Naraina Guru, Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Jyotiba Phule and Dr B R Ambedkar, have been set up for housing the participants.

The entire city has been decorated with blue lights and cutouts of Mayawati, Kanshiram and other dalit leaders have been erected on both sides of the road leading to venue of the rally.

Over 50,000 workers from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Rajasthan have already arrived for the rally, a party leader said.
