Bogies detach from Mailani-Gonda engine; all passengers safe

Seven bogies of the Mailani- Gonda passenger train got detached and were left behind even as its engine safely arrived at the station platform.

Bahraich (UP): Seven bogies of the Mailani- Gonda passenger train got detached and were left behind even as its engine safely arrived at the station platform here, following which railway authorities ordered an inquiry into the incident, railway sources said.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, the sources said.

The carriages were left near Anarkali pond at the outer signal of the Bahraich railway station, about three kilometres away on Sunday evening, after the coupling between two bogies broke, leaving nearly 750 passengers stranded, they said.

The engine driver realised that the bogies had been left behind only on reaching the station, they said, adding, he contacted the guard on the wireless system and the carriages were fetched by sending the engine back.

All the passengers left behind were reported to be safe, but the incident adversely affected traffic on the route for about three hours, they said.

PRO of North Eastern Railway, Alok Srivasata said an inquiry had been set up in this connection with a four-member committee including the senior divisional safety officer, area manager, Gonda, assistant mechanical engineer and assistant engineer Bahraich asked to look into the incident and submit a report.

Station superintendent MA Siddiqui said the Divisional Railway Manager and other officials had been informed about the incident.
