India have sealed a historic 4-0 series victory over Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla. Indian skipper MS Dhoni hits the winning runs off Lyon as India beat Australia in the fourth Test by six wickets. The Indian dressing room is a happy bunch. Cheteshwar Pujara has been the soul of this chase that at the end appeared to be a walk in the park – which wasn’t the case. The Indians have put up an exemplary batting performance on a difficult Kotla pitch today. Off the 31st over, Pujara scored three back-to-back boundaries off Glenn Maxwell as India took 12 runs from the over. Dhoni then sealed the fate of the game in India’s favour with a four to midwicket boundary. The series also saw Shikhar Dhawan debuting in Test cricket in style with a record-breaking century. He had to sit out of the Delhi Test due to injury. R Ashwin redeemed himself by taking 29 wickets in the series – the highest among the two teams. He was followed by Ravindra Jadeja who with 24 scalps against his name. Lyon took 15 to be the third on the list. Murali Vijay scored 430 runs at 61.42 to become the leading run-getter. Cheteshwar Pujara took the second spot with 419 while Dhoni with 326 runs took the third spot. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 30 II Score: 142/4 (Pujara 70*, Dhoni 8*) A boundary by MS Dhoni as he cuts Maxwell’s first delivery of the 29th over releases some tension. Two more runs take the total from the over to six. Off the next, Dhoni and Pujara share five singles between them. India need another 13 runs to win this Test. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 26.4 II Score: 128/4 (Pujara 61*, Dhoni 0*) OUT! Rahane takes the aerial route and is caught by Nathan Lyon at midwicket. He has wasted another opportunity. Should have not attempted that stroke as Gavaskar in the commentary box rightly points out – he is not known for clearing the boundaries! In walks India captain MS Dhoni with his side in a little trouble. Rahane scored 1 (5b). And to the utter disappointment of the home crowd, Sachin tendulkar has been dismissed by Nathan Lyon! Tendulkar has been trapped by Lyon for the second time in the match. A floater and Tendulkar comes forward to play it to his on side. He misses it and gets hit on the pad. Nathan Lyon is jubilant as the umpire raises his finger. In walks Ajinkya Rahane. Tendulkar scored 1 (5b). ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 23.6 II Score: 123/2 (Pujara 61*, Tendulkar 0*) OUT! Nathan Lyon strikes! He has trapped Virat Kohli lbw. It was a tossed up delivery and Kohli was looking to play it to the square leg region. He missed it and was hit on the pad. Lyon appealed loudly and umpire raised his finger. Kohli scored 41 (60b, 4X4). ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 20 II Score: 105/1 (Pujara 58*, Kohli 28*) Cheteshwar Pujara has completed his second half-century in Tests. Pattinson began the proceedings of the third and final session of the day. His first went for six. Off the next, by Lyon, an overthrow from Warner that Wade failed to collect went for a boundary. Four more runs were scored off the remaining five deliveries. The next boundary was scored in the 19th over bowled by Maxwell. That was Pujara’s eight boundary. The Indian score touched the 100-run mark as Kohli scored a couple off the final delivery of the same over. Off 20th came just five. The Kotla crowd is on their feet for they are welcoming The Master to the crease. This will probably be Sachin Tendulkar’s last Test match in India. India aren’t scheduled to play another Test at home this year. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 12 II Score: 72/1 (Pujara 40*, Kohli 16*) TEA India need 83 runs to beat Australia in the fourth Test being played in Delhi. They are literally racing towards the target. Off the 12th over, the final before tea-break, Pujara clattered Mitchell Johnson for three boundaries. The first one an audacious stroke played off a short delivery over wicketkeeper Matthew Wade’s head, the second a cut to third man while the third a drive through covers. 12 runs were scored in that over. Superb batting by the youngster! ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 10 II Score: 55/1 (Pujara 27*, Kohli 16*) The Indians are off to a rapid start as they chase 155. Off the fifth delivery of the sixth over, Kohli scored his first boundary of the innings by charging down the track and driving it to long-off. Seven runs came in that over. Pujara began the next with a boundary to deep backward square leg region. It was a smart short from the batsman as he knew that no one was manning the boundary. Off the next, Lyon shouted loudly for lbw but as it had pitched outside leg, umpire turned it down. Pujara then drove Maxwell exquisitely through covers by after charging down the track. Later, in the next over, Kohli brought up the Indian fifty with a pull that went to fine leg for four. Five runs were taken from the ninth over. Pace in Mitchell Johnson introduced by Watson in the 10th over. Four runs from the over. India need another 100 to win this fourth Test. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 5 II Score: 26/1 (Pujara 10*, Kohli 4*) So, quiet an interesting start to the chase by the Indian batsmen. From the first over, they extracted 10 runs. However, Vijay, in a moment of madness, went for a reverse sweep that cost him his wicket. His departure brought Koihli to the crease. The fifth over, bowled by Lyon went for six runs. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 3.3 II Score: 19/1 ( Pujara 7*, Kohli 0*) OUT! And Australia have got an early wicket they wanted! An unnecessary reverse sweep attempt from Vijay off Glenn Maxwell that leaves the legs stumps fully exposed. The ball crashes on the stumps! He is disappointed. Must be! A needless shot! Maxwell is celebrating. Vijay scored 11 (12b, 4X2). In walks local boy Virat Kohli. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 2 II Score: 15/0 (Vijay 10*, Pujara 5*) So, Glenn Maxwell will share the new ball with Lyon. Off the second delivery of the over, Pujara drives him through covers for his first boundary and gets off the mark. Five runs from the over. There was a loud shout for lbw off the fourth delivery that looked really closed but the umpire turned it down. Replays later showed there might have been a faint inside edge as the ball went on to hit the pad. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 1 II Score: 10/0 (Vijay 10*, Pujara 0*) So, Nathan Lyon has the new ball and he is on a hat-trick. For India, Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara will open the innings. Facing him his Vijay. Lyon comes round the wicket and the first delivery is pitched on the leg and Vijay gives him the charge. The ball bounces and eludes everyone. Vijay is safe. So not hat-trick for Lyon. Off the next, Vijay take a couple. Off the fourth and fifth delivery, Vijay sweeps him for two consecutive boundaries to deep backward square leg region. 10 runs from the first over. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 44.4 II Score: 164/10 OUT! Peter Siddle stumped by MS Dhoni immediately after scoring a record second fifty in the second innings as Australia were folded out for 164 runs. The ball was bowled wide, deliberately by Ashwin after seeing Siddle giving him the charge. Siddle was already committed to the shot and Dhoni did well to collect it and remove the bails. The umpire asked for a review and it clearly showed that the batsman was out of the crease. So, India need 155 runs to complete a historic series whitewash of Australia. Siddle scored 50 (45b, 7X4). Siddle again has played an important knock for Australia. By completing a second consecutive fifty in the Test, Siddle has created a record for becoming the only player in the Test history to record a fifty while batting at No.9. A superb innings from the “tailender”! ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 44.4 II Score: 158/9 (Siddle 48*, Lyon 0*) OUT! And Ishant Sharma gets his revenge. Siddle and Pattinson had struck him for two boundaries in the 45th over. Off the fourth delivery, he uprooted Pattinson's middle-stump after pitching it on the off and making it come in to the left-hander. He gave him quiet a send-off! He is charged. That was a bit crossing the line though. James Pattinson scored 11 (28b, 4X1). ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 40 II Score: 135/8 (Siddle 34*, Pattinson 4*) Peter Siddle is the top scores in both the Australian innings in this Test. He is not getting bogged down by the Indian spinners. Rather, he has taken the attack to the opposition. He is adding some vital runs to the Australian total. Off the 37th over came three runs, while the next went for just one. Off the 39th, Siddle paddle swept Jadeja’s first delivery to fine leg where a diving Kohli saved it from crossing the fence. Siddle, meanwhile completed three runs. Five runs taken from the over. The 40th over saw them add four more runs to the total. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 35.5 II Score: 122/8 (Siddle 25*, Pattinson 0*) OUT! Oh and Matthew Wade has been stumped! Oh Wait! He has been given out caught behind. Australia have lost their eight wicket. Ojha gets his second wicket of the innings. Wade, taking a cue from Siddle, came down the track and missed a floated delivery from Ojha. He got a faint edge that was well caught by Dhoni, who in a flash broke the stumps as well with Wade still out of his crease. He was caught first, so given out caught behind. Wade scored 19 (38b, 4X2). In walks James Pattinson. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 35 II Score: 120/7 ( Wade 18*, Siddle 24*) R Ashwin gave away 10 runs in the 34th over that included two boundaries –through covers and straight down the ground and both by Peter Siddle. Siddle is counterattacking. He added two more boundaries to his total in the next over bowled by Ravindra Jadeja – the first over mid-off and the second over extra cover region. Every run scored from here onwards will be gold. Siddle has hit five boundaries in his total of 24. The lead is now 110 runs. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 32.2 II Score: 94/7 ( Wade 16*, Siddle 0*) OUT! And Jadeja has got two in two. He has cleaned up Mitchell Johnson to take his first ever five-wicket haul in Tests! A tossed up delivery and Johnson came forward for a drive. The ball spun and sneaked between the gap between Johnson’s bat and pad to crash on the middle stump! The Delhi crowd has gone berserk! In walks Peter Siddle. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 32.1 II Score: 94/6 ( Wade 16*, Johnson 0*) OUT! Steve Smith has been bowled by Jadeja in his first over after lunch! Smith shoulders arm to a delivery that clipped off stump! Smith stays at the crease ends! In walks Mitchell Johnson. Off the first ball of the post lunch session, 4 runs were added to the Australian total courtesy four byes. Five runs came from the over. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 31 II Score: 89/5 (Smith 17*, Wade 16*) LUNCH So an absorbing first session of play on Day 3 of the fourth final Test has ended. This is surely not a friendly talk! A little chat between Kohli and Wade as the players head off to the dressing room for a much needed break. The Indians have been all over the Aussies. The Indians managed a lead of 10 runs in the first innings after Lyon removed their last two remaining wickets in consecutive deliveries. Later, led by Ravindra Jadeja, the Indians removed half of the Australian side with just 89 runs on board. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 30 II Score: 88/5 (Smith 16*, Wade 16*) MS Dhoni missed a chance to dismiss Matthew Wade in the 26th over after and edge went between his legs for a boundary. That was a difficult chance but, on a pitch like this where chasing anything above 100 will be a challenge, half chances need to be grabbed with both hands! Off the next delivery, Wade collected a couple to move into double figures. The next bowled by Ojha was a maiden. Off the following over, two more runs were added. Off the first delivery of the 29th over, Smith charged down the track and drove Ojha through midwicket region for a boundary. Off the final delivery of the over, there was a loud appeal for a catch which was turned down by the umpire. Five runs were scored in the 30th over including a boundary off the final delivery to fine leg. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 25 II Score: 68/5 (Smith 8*, Wade 4*) Australia took six runs from the 19th, 20th and 21st over –two in each. Off the 22 came six runs – thanks to four leg byes as a result of a sharp bounce that eluded everyone – batsman, wicketkeeper Dhoni and Raina at leg slip. Off the next came just a single while three runs were scored from the 24th. The 25th, bowled by Ojha was safely negotiated by Smith resulting in a maiden. Another one bites the dust! This pitch isn’t going to spare anyone! Ravindra Jadeja has removed Ed Cowan after trapping him in front! Cowan scored 24 (44b, 4X5). In walks Matthew Wade. Half of the Australian side is sitting in the dressing room. It was pitched on off and was turning in. Umpire Richard Kettleborough waited before finally raising his finger. ==================================================================================== AUSTRALIA Overs: 17.3 II Score: 52/4 (Cowan 24*, Smith 0*) OUT! This pitch is a batsman’s nightmare! Another ball keeps low and dodges the blade to crash on the stumps! It was a short delivery, pitched on the middle and Watson went for a pull. The bounce was low and hence, he missed the shot giving Ojha his first wicket of the innings. Watson scored 5 (11b, 4X1). Watson got off the mark with single of Ashwin. Off the next delivery, Cowan cover drove him for another boundary. Watson scored his first boundary in the next over playing one from Jadeja through midwicket. Ashwin strikes, gets the better of Phil Hughes and traps him in front of the wickets. He looks unhappy with the decision. He can’t do much but walk back to the pavilion. He scored 6 (23b). That was tossed up and hit Hughes low on the back pad. Jadeja began celebrating even before umpire had raised his finger! That one was pitched on off and turned sharply hitting David Warne on the pad. That was as plumb as it gets. They have sent in Glenn Maxwell to open up the innings with David Warner. Bhuvneswhar Kumar has the new ball and facing him is David Warner. Nathan Lyon picked up his seventh wicket of the innings as India were bundled out for 272 runs in their first innings with a slender lead of 10 runs. Pragyan Ojha was the final batsman to be dismissed after being trapped by Lyon in front of the wickets. He was out for a duck. This is Lyon’s best performance in Tests. Lyon has taken 7/94 – his career best figures in an innings. First wicket of the morning for Lyon! Ishant Sharma has been bowled. The ball sneaked past his defence to crash on the stumps. He goes back for a duck. In walks Pragyan Ojha. This is Lyon’s best performance in Tests. ==================================================================================== INDIA Overs: 70 II Score: 272/8 (Kumar 14*, Sharma 0*) Nathan Lyon and Glenn Maxwell have begun the proceedings as Australia look to remove the last two wickets ASAP. There was a chance off the fifth delivery as Hughes grassed a catch at forward short leg after juggling several times. Two runs came in the over. Later, Bhuvneshwar welcomed Maxwell with a boundary off his first delivery of the morning. ==================================================================================== Indian innings begin with a lot of promise on the second day. Their new opening pair of Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara added 108 runs for the first wicket. Things were going downhill for Australia. However, by the end of the day the Aussies were one happy bunch having reduced the Indians to 266/8 thanks to a third five-wicket haul by their leading spinner of the tour Nathan Lyon. The home side managed to take a slender lead of four runs in their first innings on an exciting and eventful third day of the fourth and final Test at Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday. This pitch had the looks of a third day wicket from the opening day itself. Now that we have finally reached the third day’s play, it has turned into a graveyard for batsmen. The Indian spinners will be licking their fingers. However, before that, their side will be looking to add some valuable runs.
