UP Khap panchayat booked for Talibani diktat Zeenews Bureau

Baghpat: Reacting to an Uttar Pradesh village panchayat’s diktat - banning women under the age of 40 years from going out shopping and using mobile phones - Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday said there is no place for such diktats in a democracy.

Talking tough, Chidambaram said that the police must act against people who have imposed such a diktat.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against 10 people of the village panchayat, which had issued the Taliban-like decree banning love marriages and unescorted evening walks by young women.

Reports, today, claimed that the village panchayat also barred young men and women from using mobile phones on roads and in by-lanes.

The members of the panchayat, who met yesterday, also directed the women, under the age of 40, to cover their heads while stepping out of their homes and barred them from leaving their homes unescorted after sunset.

During the congregation, the members of the village panchayat said that love marriages, especially inter-caste marriages, create problems for the society and distort the social fabric. Hence, it was also decided that they will not allow love marriages in their villages, and those who disobey will be banished from the village.

While the members of the panchayat issued a Taliban-like diktat, they also condemned the practice of dowry, calling it a punishable offence.

Villagers belonging to the Asaara village in Baghpat later said that they completely accept the decision taken by the village panchayat.

The Khap panchayat members also decided that they will not allow love marriages in their villages and those who disobey will be banished from the village.

Ironically, these decisions were taken during a congregation of 36 clans in Baghpat, which is barely 50 km from the national capital.

When quizzed by reporters, Superintendent of Police Baghpat VK Shekhar said they have come to know about such diktats by the panchayat and ordered an inquiry by the district intelligence unit into the matter.

He said no arrest has been made in connection with the panchayat's directives and any action would be taken after getting the report of the intelligence unit.

In northern India, village panchayats or Khaps are powerful institutions, which are hard to defy.

To renovate the canky beliefs has now become a neccessity.we are being counted among the developing counteries but the reality overlapped the whole development. It is only for the namesame. As the slums are given in heritage the very diseased and despaired body alongwith the poverty... some social elements have got mean-mindedness in heritage that are now trying to justify it with a type of absolute power.. Remember power is power when it is absolute but the very absolute power corrupts absolutely. The social actors are no matter active but giving influence to the vote banking but should be given to d fact that makes we people happy and let us to feel the freedom. The matter wasn`t very complex like today but been made by the political parties and the mind who governs it.

Dear Reader Actually we can see mistakes in others personality but we ignore our personal mistakesso better is to correct ourself if we achieve this so as a result whole society will be better as society is sum of individuals . And its not any one duty to correct other by imposing his/her thinking on others so better to correct oneself. i think bottom up approach is better for upgrading Society

We should provide a good education to the villagers because it is often scene in the village they did not know about the matters and the khap panchayat made their decisions without thionking that is why because they are not aware about the society. Even they do not want to be out of their villages for themselves, only vilage is their world. They don`t know what is happening, what is about to be happen and what will be happen. So first we have to teach them we are not in 17th century ,we are in 21st century so we have to come forward and will have to make them aware that women should not be exploited and they are the future bof young India. So nobody can dteel the freedom of the girls if these khap panchayats are making those type of rules ,it mean that they have a fear that if a ladyt will go out alone thre may be tha chances of unacceptable situation but htey shold not stop the girls to go out instead of that they should make strict rules for those who go for the exploitation of women, they should take the strict action against themselves.Even we can take the example of gulf countries, over thre crimes are less because of law and order. They are only for women but for both.So at last we should offer them a good edution in that they can understand the differences.

Offer good education to the villages in the Panchayat. The intelligence gained by better education will help them to use their intelligence, when, where and how.

why should only women and girls always adjust in a society...why not men?instead of making such rules which have no meaning...instead the police should take strict actions against such men who think that they can do anything with women...till now many such cases of eve-teasing and many such cases in which women are considered in a lower level to men...but never police have taken any strict actions..WHY?and coming to mobiles...they are really useful now-a -days b`coz parents can know where their daughters or family members are..!!

if these decissions will improve d society, then these khap panchayat should ask for d males also to follw d rules. by these statements u ppl r straight away saying that women is only resposoble for all crimes that r going on. God has not given any special power for men, tha they will decide what a woman has to do or not to do. instead pass a rule that evry boy or a girl should learn d moral values to live together in d society. r these ppl saying that men cannot controlled n they cando whatever they like, y r d rules only made for girls n that men can live however they like

the amount of protection you have to give a woman tells a lot about the nature of men in that society. when a man says that women need to be `protected`, he admits that he thinks other are perverts like him!

Its petty that government is keeping silent for vote bank politics.
