Allahabad: Enraged over his family for
defaulting payment, a woman shot dead a one-year-old child
in Allahabad, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place yesterday at Subedarganj
locality.
According to police, railway employee Narendra Sharma's
mother had borrowed Rs 60,000 from Puja Singh, a usurer and
mother of three children, a year ago.
However, the Sharma family had been unable to pay the
monthly interest of Rs 6,000, agreed upon by both the parties,
for the past three months.
Yesterday, Puja visited the family to recover her dues
and an altercation broke out between them over the issue
following which she shot dead Sharma's one-year-old son,
Additional SP (City) S S Baghel said.
Puja was later arrested, he said.
Meanwhile, a search is on for Puja's brother-in-law
Rakesh, who had accompanied her to Sharma's house and
allegedly "provoked" the woman to open fire but fled in panic
after the incident took place, the ASP said.
