Kolkata: The Communist Party of India-Marxist began its four-day state conference in West Bengal on Wednesday to discuss its future agenda. This is the first time in three decades that the meet is being held when the party is in opposition.

The 23rd state conference of the CPI-M is being held amid a changed political situation in West Bengal with archrival Trinamool Congress now in power. The conference will conclude with the selection of a new state committee.

The state conference will review the deficiencies and the lacuna in the party functioning that led to the historic defeat of the CPI-M-led Left Front in last year's state assembly polls after 34 years of uninterrupted rule. It will act as a platform for introspection in the largest communist party in the country.

State secretary Biman Bose on Tuesday said the state conference will aim at reorganising the party and will lay stress on ideological aspects.

The party conference will see CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat and several other politburo members like Sitaram Yechury, SR Pillai, Brinda Karat, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Nirupam Sen participating in the discussions.

The conference will aim at preparing a path for reaching out to the masses and the poor.

It will also chalk out the plan of action and the dos and don'ts for the CPI-M as an opposition party.

Comrade,Left front govt was elected for five years in the year 1977.but observing the functioning of the govt people of westbengal elected left front govt for another five years. In this way 34 years gone.If the party won for this time next time defeat may come.In parliamentarian democracy it is inhevitable.so many voters are here that they have no idea of the trinomul like govt.now they can realise what is what. Why the farmers committed suicide.we have to wait for next election and to organise peoples movement.more struggle more movements.definately we shall overcome some day. Thanks for giving us an opportunity to comments upon such a conference.
