New Delhi: Harbhajan Singh’s inclusion in the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy baffled many cricket fans in India. The only possible justification for his inclusion was his excellent track record against the Aussies. However his selection in the playing eleven ahead of the in-form Pragyan Ojha seemed unfair on the young left handed bowler and a regressive step for Indian cricket.
However, the off spinner from Punjab has not done his case any good with an average performance in the first two Tests. He picked up three wickets in the first Test and looked like a poor imitation of the bowler he had been against the Aussies in the past in home conditions. In the second Test he only picked two wickets and there was no noticeable change in his bowling. With the Mohali Test due in a few days time, Harbhajan’s selection in the team remains doubtful. The Mohali track has traditionally assisted fast bowlers and with Ravindra Jadeja in decent form as a bowler, the Indian team management may well decide to drop the seasoned off spinner to include another fast bowler in the playing eleven. If the Indian team management decides to adopt the ’horses for courses’ policy and play three fast bowlers then Ashok Dinda will come into the playing eleven and it may well be at the expense of Harbhajan Singh.
