Karachi: Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has expressed his dissatisfaction at the appointment of Trent Woodhill as the national team`s batting coach, terming it a mistake on the part of those who recommended the Australian.
The appointment of Woodhill, who is currently associated with the Indian Premier League`s outfit Delhi Daredevils, drew heavy criticism from former Pakistan cricketers and Miandad, a serving director general of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), showed no difference of opinion.
Miandad, who has been working with the team`s batsmen in the training camp at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, said that although it is not his job to comment on Woodhill`s appointment, however, he said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should have recommended a capable person.
PCB coach-hunt committee, led by Intikhab Alam, preferred the Australian to the legendary Zaheer Abbas and Inzamamul Haq on the basis of his qualification as a certified coach.
Meanwhile, Miandad said that he has come to the camp to offer help to any struggling batsmen, even though all the batsmen are trained and professional, adding that he has worked with the team in different training camps in the past with successful results.
Advising the team not to be nervous about the eight-nation tournament, Miandad said that the team needs to view the tournament as a regular routine like they did in the past World Cup and play there without any mental pressures.
