Rafale bags IAF`s USD 10 bn MMRCA deal Zeenews Bureau

New Delhi: After being initially ruled out of the race for IAF's USD 10 billion deal for supplying 126 Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA), French contender Rafale has reportedly bagged the prestigious contract.

In the process, French contender Rafale beat European consortium EADS’ Cassidian (Eurofighter Typhoon).

This has finally ended suspense over the speculated winner of the USD 10.4 billion deal to equip Indian Air Force with 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft.

The French fighter aircraft was earlier declared out of the race after it was found lacking on certain requirements of the IAF during the technical evaluation phase of the contract.

The deal was awarded to Rafale after evaluation of bids of the European consortium from Germany, Britain, Italy, Spain and EADS Cassidian by the Indian officials to figure out the fly-away cost, life cycle cost, technology transfer cost and the offset offers before the winner of the contract will be known.

The offset clause in the tender, included under the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) of 2006, requires the winner of the tender to reinvest 50 percent of the deal amount in the Indian defence industry in an effort to energise it.

India had in April down-selected the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Rafale and asked the manufacturers to extend their commercial bids that were on the point of expiring, till the middle of December.

The down-select had resulted in the rejection of four other contending aircraft -- the Lockheed Martin F-16, the Boeing F/A-18, Russian United Aircraft Corp's MiG-35 and Swedish SAAB's Gripen.

As far as i feel, there could not be a better choice for INDIA than a French fighter.....no one can trust the americans,Eurofighter-if we had purchased it then i think we will be caught up in never ending loops of FOUR nations which have different political stands and any 1 of that nation can stop the supply of the supporting materials in future during a war....but FRANCE like RUSSIA had always helped INDIA and they never backed themselves from supporting their equipments any where..any time....

Euro fighter Typhoon has many many parties so it is better to get Rafale which is available to comparative less. countries.

Bet that Rafael is the best addition to the IAF fleet, provided its credentials and capabilities. Its duel operatability will enable India to deploy the naval version on Indian Aircraft cariers too.

Rafale was not failing due to it`s capability, but because of political pressure from us and other nations.

hi dude, iam agree with your point. Dessault aviation`s rafale is best for india because it cracked the defence`s 150 parameters and dessault will provide a new hitech engine than old rafale. So it would be better than eurofighter typhoon.

Pranav Eurofighter is no wonder a good fighter, but it is no match against Rafael .Its combat radius and the avionics are the best in world, plus the othe add-ons are gonna be box of goodies for th India Airforce

I was bet that the France win the Bid. And it was correct. I post it in my facebook acc. Y do i do so. Because I learnt all the details of two winners. Most of chance that france have very good and drastic capablity to do so. Euro has many party which in future not coperate. wheres france past deals are not fulfil. They can do anything for their planes. Be careful India, all the deals of france are very path breaking. They never cross the gate without paid.
