Valiyaveetil Diju: A four-time National mixed-doubles champion, Valiyaveetil Diju or V Diju is also the current national mixed doubles champion along with partner Jwala Gutta. Both of them are ranked 13 in the world and have brought several laurels for the country in the past.
In August 2009, the Diju-Jwala mixed doubles pair became the first Indians to enter the quarterfinals of World Badminton Championship where they were defeated by second seeds Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir of Indonesia 16-21, 14-21 in a match that lasted for 27 minutes.
Just like Jwala Gutta, even D Viju would like to show that in India, badminton is more than Saina Nehwal. The London Games should be the apt opportunity.
