London: Captain John Terry and star player Eden Hazard both overcame injuries to start for Chelsea in their Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Terry had been a doubt after injuring his ankle in last week`s 0-0 first-leg draw and Hazard was recently sidelined by a calf problem, but both players were selected by manager Jose Mourinho.
There was no place in the squad for first-choice goalkeeper Petr Cech, who unexpectedly trained on Tuesday after dislocating his shoulder in the first leg, with Mark Schwarzer continuing in goal. Mourinho sprung a surprise by naming no fewer than six defenders in his starting XI, although both David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta were expected to play in midfield. For Atletico, former Chelsea midfielder Tiago Mendes came in for suspended captain Gabi, while Adrian Lopez was preferred to Raul Garcia. Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has been on loan at Atletico from Chelsea since 2011, was due to make his first appearance at Stamford Bridge. Diego Simeone is bidding to become the first coach to lead Atletico to a European Cup final since 1974, while 2012 champions Chelsea are seeking to qualify for their second final in three seasons. Starting line-ups for the Champions League semi-final second leg between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday (1845 GMT kick-off; aggregate score 0-0): Chelsea (4-2-3-1) Mark Schwarzer; Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry (capt), Ashley Cole; David Luiz, Ramires; Cesar Azpilicueta, Willian, Eden Hazard; Fernando Torres Coach: Jose Mourinho (POR) Atletico Madrid (4-2-3-1) Thibaut Courtois; Juanfran, Diego Godin, Joao Miranda, Filipe Luis; Tiago Mendes, Mario Suarez; Adrian Lopez, Koke, Arda Turan; Diego Costa Coach: Diego Simeone (ARG) Referee: Nicola Rizzoli (ITA)
