Johannesburg: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has praised the South African team on their series victory over Pakistan after they won the second Test at Newlands by four wickets.
Congratulating the Proteas, CSA Acting CEO Jacques Faul stated that the victory is the team’s sixth Test series victory in a row, and added that the Proteas has now an unbeaten record of 14 successive Test matches.
Faul said that although Pakistan had severely pressurised them at the end of the second day, the Proteas came through with flying colours because of their determination and their strength of character.
Praising captain Graeme Smith, who celebrated his 100th game as Proteas captain, Faul said that his position during the Newland Test had contributed a lot to bowling Pakistan out for a low total in the second innings, and gave his players a low final innings target.
He also lauded the performance of ‘Man of the Match’ Robin Peterson and said that Peterson produced a good all-round performance in the match which enabled the Proteas to be level on the first innings, a key tactical factor.
Faul also congratulated the visiting Pakistan team on their performance and said that they had played some of the best cricket that South Africa had seen at Newlands by a visiting team for some time.
The Proteas now hold an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with the final match to be played at SuperSport Park from Friday.
