Panaji: The Goa government has proposed a new pension scheme for sports personalities above 60 years of age, who have represented the state at the national and international level.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar presenting the state budget on Wednesday announced the proposal of this scheme planned to be implemented by the sports department.
He said the scheme would cover "meritorious" sports personalities above the age of 60 who are in indigent conditions and have represented Goa at national and international level.
"The details of this scheme would be worked out by department immediately," he announced on the floor of the House.
The state government has also earmarked Rs 150 crore to the Sports Authority of Goa for the purpose of developing an international standard facility for hosting 36th National Games. The facilities would include various indoor and outdoor stadiums, he said.
