Not risking my Wimbledon, Olympic dream by playing in pain: Murray

London : British No.1 Andy Murray has said he is not risking his Wimbledon and Olympic dream by playing through the pain in the French Open.

Murray was on the brink of pulling out during his second round match against Jarkko Nieminen after suffering severe back spasms. He somehow battled on to win in four sets and will carry on today against Colombian Santiago Giraldo – even though he has been suffering from ongoing back problems all season, sources report. Any further setbacks could ruin Murray’s chances of success at his home Grand Slam and Olympics. He said: “It’s a completely different thing to what I had beforehand. If it is just a muscle spasm, then that’s nothing to be overly concerned by. I have had advice from some of the top surgeons and physios. I’m confident that I’m doing the right thing.” “I’m not doing any permanent damage by finishing a match like I did in the last round. If it was the same thing , then yes, I would be really really concerned about Wimbledon and obviously the Olympics.” ANI
