New Delhi: Spain striker David Villa has signed a three-year deal with New York City FC on Monday. The newest club of Major League Soccer (MLS) is co-owned by Premier League champions Manchester City and Baseball franchise New York Yankees.
David Villa becomes the first player of the club who are expected to play their first season in the league in the 2015 MLS season. The news was confirmed by New York City FC via their official Twitter account. David Villa also tweeted about the latest development on the micro-blogging site from his official account. David Villa left Atletico Madrid after just one season with the newly crowned La Liga champions. During this tenure he scored 13 goals for the club and played his part in winning the first La Liga title for Atletico since 1996. The Spain international joined Atletico on a free transfer from Barcelona after having spent three years at the Camp Nou where he moved for £34m from Valencia.
