David Villa left Atletico Madrid after just one season with the newly crowned La Liga champions. During this tenure he scored 13 goals for the club and played his part in winning the first La Liga title for Atletico since 1996. The Spain international joined Atletico on a free transfer from Barcelona after having spent three years at the Camp Nou where he moved for £34m from Valencia.
