New Delhi: When 38-year-old Imtiaz Alam stood in the bank queue for four hours to get cash, the bank manager told him that the bank did not have that many notes.

Alam, a PR executive by profession, had told the bank manager at Jamia Cooperative Bank in Delhi, that he needed Rs, 20,000 in cash.

He is one of the many bank customers standing in long endless queues to get money for day-to-day expenses after the government announced demonetisation on November 8.

The manager told Alam that the bank would be able to give that amount of cash only in Rs 10 coins.

With no time or energy left to spend as much time in another queue outside banks some other day, Imtiaz Alam accepted around 15-kg of 20,000 currency in 10 rupee coins.

So, Alam agreed to accept all the money in 10 rupee coins as at least it was “valid money”, and returned home with virtually a 15-kg heavy wallet.
