Neeraj Chopra is a Subedar with the 4 Rajputana Rifles and had joined the Indian Army in 2016.

The Indian Army informed that General Bipin Rawat applauded Subedar Neeraj Chopra and complimented him for his phenomenal performance in the Olympic Games that brought laurels to the nation.

Neeraj Chopra, a 23-year-old son of a farmer from Chandra village near Panipat in Haryana, brought India its first track and field medal in the Olympics in over 100 years.

 

He won the gold medal after producing a throw of 87.58 m in the javelin throw finals on August 7.
