Public gathering ahead of festivals banned as COVID-19 cases surge across India
Amid a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases many state governments have ordered a ban on gatherings on festivals like Holi, Navratri and Shab-e-Barat. Apart from festivals, the ban also covers all kinds of gatherings as well. The state governments are ramping up coronavirus testing, especially for people coming from outside the state. Meanwhile, India reported 47,262 new cases of the novel coronavirus, which is the highest reported single-day rise for the year 2021.
Holi on March 29
On the festival of Holi public celebrations and gatherings, congregations shall not be allowed in public places, public grounds, public parks, markets, religious places etc.
Chaitra Navratri on April 22
On Navratri public celebrations and gatherings will not be permitted in public places, public grounds, public parks, markets, religious places etc.
Shab-e-Barat begins on Sunday, 28 March
Shab-e-Barat will not be celebrated in an public places, public grounds or markets.
Maha Kumbh Mela in Haridwar
Strict COVID-19 guidelines at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Haridwar will be imposed which includes wearing masks, maintaining hygiene and social distancing by people.
COVID-19 Lockdown
Meanwhile, lockdown and night curfews have been imposed in several cities across Maharahstra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
