The United Nations Security Council met regarding the situation in Afghanistan at the United Nations in New York City. During the meeting attended

The 15-member body called for the establishment, through negotiations, of a new government in Afghanistan that is "united, inclusive and representative, including with the full, equal and meaningful participation of women."

They also called for an immediate end to hostilities and human rights abuses and for all parties to allow immediate, safe and unhindered humanitarian access.

US President Joe Biden addressed the nation on the Afghanistan crisis and called his decision to withdraw his troops from Afghanistan a 'right one'.

Biden also said that American troops should not be dying in a war that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves.

Speaking on the deteriorating Afghanistan situation, German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned that Afghans fleeing from the Taliban to neighbouring countries could make their way to Europe, in a repeat of the 2015 migrant crisis, if they don`t get sufficient humanitarian assistance.

Merkel also said the fall of Kabul to Taliban insurgents was a bitter development.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi over Afghanistan situation after the fall of the Afghan government. 

Blinken also had a conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the deepening Afghan crisis.

A first plane carrying Italian diplomats and their Afghan assistants arrived in Rome from the Afghan capital. Around 70 people were aboard the military aircraft that flew into Rome after the Taliban fighters swept into Kabul.

Malala Yousafzai spoke on the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and said she was deeply concerned about the situation in the country, particularly the safety of women and girls.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner also called on world leaders to take urgent action.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Taliban leaders are now discussing future government plans in Doha after gaining control of Kabul and seizing the presidential palace in Afghanistan's capital.

The reports claimed that discussions are underway in Doha about a future government, including its structure and name.

The insurgents are also reportedly in touch with the international community and intra-Afghan parties to make government in Afghanistan.
