New Delhi: Pradosh Vrat is a Hindu fast for the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Also known as Pradosham in South India, fasting is observed on this day to achieve success and peace in life.

The fast is observed on both Trayodashi Tithis, i.e. Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi, in the lunar month.

There are two ways of fasting on this auspicious day. One is to observe a 24-hour fast without sleeping in the night, or a fasting from sunrise till sunset.

Another way is to worship the Shivling by chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra 108 times and lighting a single lamp in the period.
