Anil Kumble: Undoubtedly one of the greatest, but can he improve India's dismal show overseas?

New Delhi: As Anil Kumble was appointed as the new coach of the Indian cricket team on Thursday, the one question doing the rounds was – whether he can help Indian team improve their performances overseas?

Many people are of the opinion that Ravi Shastri would have been a better choice since Indian team performed decently during his 18-month tenure as a Team Director recently.

One of the two questions which the three-member panel of Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) specifically asked the applicants was – how would they help the Indian team improve their performances overseas?

Kumble, who appeared for the interview in person, compared to Shastri – who attended the interview via video conference, is said to have done his homework as he produced different blue prints for improving India's performances away from home.

Not to forget, under MS Dhoni's captaincy, India were annihilated 8-0 at the hands of Australia and England in 2012.

Ever since Virat Kohli replaced Dhoni as the Test skipper, there has been a significant improvement in India's performances in whites and the selectors would definitely want their new coach to only further India's goal of becoming the No. 1 Test side again.

Now that he has the backing of Indian stalwarts as well as the Indian board, it's time for Kumble to speak through performances.
