World T20: Shahid Afridi open to changes in 15-man squad post Asia Cup 2016

New Delhi: Even though Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already announced their World T20 squad, skipper Shahid Afridi on Thursday said that he is quite open to the changes in the 15-member squad, post Asia Cup.

Veteran Afridi also indicated that the selectors and team management will closely watch performances in the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6.

"I hope that we don't need to make changes in the squad and it plays in both events but if any player (s) fails to click in the Asia Cup than there can be changes made in the side for the World Cup," Afridi was quoted as saying by the PTI.

As per the guidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC), teams who have qualified for the super round, can make changes in their selected squads till March 8.

Afridi, 35, also said that top performers in the on-going Pakistan Super League (PSL) could also be considered in the squad.

"If they are players who impress everyone in the Pakistan Super League they can be considered for the World T20,” Afridi added.

Without taking any names, Afridi also warned few players by saying that he was disappointed with performances of some players in recent times under his captaincy.

"Myself, the team management and selectors gave full confidence and support to every player but unfortunately what we are looking at the same response was not forthcoming from players," he stated.

There are five players in Pakistan's Asia Cup and World T20 squads who are yet to make their international debuts.

In fact, the selectors have also axed experienced opener Ahmed Shehzad, Muhammad Rizwan, Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Gul for the two events.
