New Delhi: Indian middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh on Saturday hailed Virat Kohli, who "batted outstandingly" against Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2016 match in Mirpur.

Kohli played a classy innings of 49 runs off 51 runs to help India knock of Pakistan's 84-run target with 27 balls remaining. India won the match by 5-wickets, but until Kohli's arrival in the centre it was Pakistan.

"It was tough, the Pakistan bowlers bowled quick, not easy to bat, Virat batted outstandingly and we bowled really well. It was a situation where you had to fight it out and I was happy to spend some time out there. Hopefully next game I will hit the ball better. I stuck out there and did not give my wicket away," Yuvi said.

After restricting Pakistan for a paltry looking 83, India were subjected to a brilliant spell of pace bowling with come-back kid Mohammad Amir accounting for top three batsmen -- Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Suresh Raina in his first two overs.

But Kohli, along with Yuvi, steadied the innings with some sensible batting, showing respect to the good deliveries, and punishing the bad ones. The left-handed returned undefeated with 14 runs off 32 balls.

And the duo stitched a 68-run partnership to make sure India won the match, and remain unbeaten.
