Ravichandran Ashwin disappointed with his ODI performance vs Australia

New Delhi: Top Indian skipper Ravichandran Ashwin seems too disappointed with his below par ODI performance in the recently concluded five-match series as the offie said he deserved to be left out of the playing XI.

After poor performances in the first two matches, Ashwin was dropped for the rest of the ODI series, which India lost 1-4.

Ashwin, who has been speed-dating in all three formats for India, before the on-going tour, feels that his exclusion after two games was a fair decision by the team management.

"The reason I didn't play was because I didn't win a game for India. If India had won, I would have played, as simple as that...the fact that I went for 70 runs, and then went for 60 run...I had to sit out, and I think it's fair enough because you have to play the right combination," Ashwin said at the pre-match press conference ahead of the second Twenty20 International match against Australia.

Later, the Chennai-born cricketer also compared his performance with the other bowlers as the 29-year-old said: "I think in the first over I bowled well (in Adelaide), there wasn't anything wrong with the way I bowled, it's just that I went for runs. Throughout the ODI series, be it Nathan Lyon or Kane Richardson, they have gone for 70 runs or more than that. So it's about picking up wickets and having the confidence to bowl the good ball again and again."

However, Ashwin had a good outing when he was included in the opening T20 in Adelaide of the three-match series against the visitors, which India won by 37 runs.

The 2nd match of the series is scheduled to take place on Friday at the MCG.
