Axed Adam Lyth targets England recall

Adam Lyth has set his sights on regaining his place in the England team after the Yorkshire batsman was dropped for the forthcoming Test series against Pakistan.

Lyth was part of the England team which regained the Ashes, but the left-hander struggled badly for much of the series against Australia.

Batting as captain Alastair Cook`s opening partner, Lyth made just 115 runs in nine innings against Australia and that miserable run meant he was not included in the squad to take on Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

"I still believe I`m good enough to come back and do well at international cricket. That will be my goal going forward," Lyth told Sky Sports News.

"The highs of the summer were getting capped and getting a century against New Zealand -- that will stay with me forever -- but the latter part of the season has been tough.

"But that`s cricket for you. On a personal level it`s disappointing but it`s something I can learn from for next season and hopefully come back stronger from.

"Everyone at Yorkshire has given me a lot of confidence so hopefully I will be there as soon as possible really.

"I`ve not had contact with (coach) Trevor Bayliss but I`ve spoken a little bit on the phone to (national selector) James Whitaker."
