Bangladesh skipper to step down after dismal show in Zimbabwe ODI series

Johannesburg: Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim will reportedly step down from his post after playing two Twenty20 internationals against Zimbabwe this weekend.

The wicketkeeper-batsman had made the announcement following his team`s loss in the third one-day international against Zimbabwe by seven wickets, conceding a one-day series to their rivals despite beating them by a record margin in the first match. According to Rahim, the Zimbabwe tour will be his last tour as captain, adding that he will resign once the team returns back home. Rahim, who took over as Bangladesh captain in September 2011 after the removal of his predecessor Shakib Al Hasan from the job, further said that the reasons behind his decision is the way his side lost the games against Zimbabwe and also his failure to perform in the ODI series. According to the report, Al Hasan`s dismissal also came in the wake of a Test tour to Zimbabwe, which the African side won, signaling their return to the five-day game and triumphing 3-2 in the one-day series that followed. Bangladesh began their tour of Zimbabwe as favourites after an encouraging trip to Sri Lanka, but lost the first Test by 335 runs before winning the second to earn a share of the series. ANI
