Brad Hodge rings BCCI's bell for more compensation following decision to pay Mohommad Shami INR 2.2 crore

New Delhi: Since the news of BCCI paying INR 2.2 crore to Mohommad Shami broke out, former Australian batsman Brad Hodge has come out seeking similar compensation for himself.

BCCI decided to pay the said amount to Shami citing “Loss of pay for IPL season 2015 due to injury.” Earlier, the Indian speedster was sidelined from the 2015 edition of the IPL due to a knee injury picked up while playing against Australia. Despite the troubled knee, he endured pain and played through the World Cup.

Considering Shami's contribution to the national team, it was sensible from the Indian cricket's governing body to compensate him for the loss he incurred by not playing in IPL.

Hodge, however, used this opportunity to highlight a similar circumstance which led to loss of pay to him and other players of the now defunct Kochi Tuskers team.

After making their debut in the 2011 edition of IPL, Kochi Tuskers finished eighth among ten teams and were terminated on September 19 on account of failure to provide the necessary bank guarantee to cover annual fee.

Hodge, who was bought for USD 425,000, was the leading run scorer for the franchisee with 285 runs from 14 matches. Since Kochi's contact was terminated, all players were placed on auction for the start of the next season. The Aussie batsman went to Rajasthan Royals for USD 180,000 in the 2012, which is less than half of his cost at Kochi.

The unsold players took salaries from team’s bank guarantee for the preceding season.
