SCORECARD» | HIGHLIGHTS»

Brief Summary:

So once again, the star-studded Daredevils side couldn’t chase a low score in a crucial match. While the Lions were excellent in the field, their bowlers also rose to the occasion and McKenzie in the post match presentation rightly said that any of them could have been the Man of the Match. Even before the match began, the Daredevils had made a big mistake by playing Warner instead of their regular skipper Mahela Jayawardene, a decision which probably cost them the game. Not even for a second, we can take the credit away from the Highveld Lions who were outstanding after the first innings as Delhi batsmen looked like a bunch of ordinary cricketers.

Brief Summary:

Gulam Bodi played another superb innings (50 from 49) for his side. The Lions would believe they are 15-20 runs short of what would have been a competitive score against the star-studded Daredevils. The Taylor-led side decided to go with Warner and not Mahela and thus the team dugout would want the explosive Australian opener to fire in the big match. The bowlers did their job as Birthday Body Umesh Yadav picked two important wickets. The batsmen would leave no stone unturned to make sure that the celebrations last throughout the night.

====================================================================================

UPDATE: So here's a shocker! Mahela is not playing in the crucial match which means David Warner is in!

TOSS: Daredevils have won the toss and their stand-in skipper Ross Taylor has decided to bowl first.

The Daredevils are the only IPL team to have made it to the semis after defending champions Mumbai Indians, IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings made an early exit from the tournament. Their last match was abandoned due to rain, but Sehwag will take some confidence in today’s semi-final after scoring a match-winning half century which helped the Daredevils become the table-toppers with 10 points.

The problem with the Daredevils is the presence of too many stars in the side. It is often seen that all of them don’t click in one match and a sudden collapse is something which they would be wary of. The Petersen-led Lions on the other hand will have the home advantage and would leave no stone unturned to seal their berth for the finals in front of their home crowd.

Players to watch out for:

Delhi Daredevils: He is known to be a big match player and skipper Mahela Jayawardene would be desperate to play a good knock after scoring just 25 runs in the two matches his side has played so far in the tournament. The Sri Lankan who opens the innings with Sehwag would want to get off to a good start in order to lay a solid platform for the middle order batsmen.

Highveld Lions: Neil McKenzie needs no introduction and he is one of those batsmen who can single-hadedly take the match away from the Daredevils. The Delhi side boasts of a good bowling attack and the Lions would need McKenzie’s experience to counter-attack.
