Cricket World Cup: Indian fan sacrifices tongue seeking divine intervention

New Delhi: Fanaticism drove an Indian cricket fan to the extremes during India's semi-final defeat to Australia, according to reports.

After the Aussies posted a huge total of 328 runs, Sudhakar of Ponneri in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district wished for some divine intervention and sacrificing his tongue for the plea. The reports said that, he cut off his tongue with a knife at his residence.

However, despite such an unheard-of sacrifice, Cricket Gods deceived the Indian fan. India suffered a humiliating 95-run defeat to the co-hosts, with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni top-scoring with 65.

Earlier, Australia rode into a patient 105-run innings from Steve Smith to post the first ever 300+ run total in a World Cup semi-final. Australia will play co-hosts New Zealand in the Sunday's final.

Relatives and neighbours rushed Sudhakar to a hospital, reports mentioned.
