Mumbai, June 30: Bollywood actress Amrita Rao, who sheds her next door girl image to don a new glamourous avatar in her upcoming movie `ShortKut` feels that she is yet to surprise herself as a performer."The journey has just begun for me," Amrita, who made her debut in Rajkumar Santoshi`s `The Legend of Bhagat Singh` opposite Ajay Devgan told reporters.
"I did not want to be typecast in any role. Hence after `Vivah` and `Welcome to Sajjanpur`, I was happy to be cast as a glamourous diva in `Shortkut`," the actress said adding she was comfortable doing different roles within her comfort zone. Speaking about the movie which hits the screens on July 10, Amrita said she liked the originality of the script and "the characters were well etched." "I play an actress in the film opposite Akshaye Khanna. I was cast opposite him in Milan Luthra`s `Deewar` a couple of years ago when I was a newcomer. The song `Piya Bawri` was a huge success. Akshaye has evolved as a performer since then," she said. Stating that she loves the different streaks of Akshaye`s personality, Amrita said, "he is unpredictable, very focussed as an actor and at the same time very charming."On her character `Mansi`, a girl who has a steel core beneath her delicate frame, she said, "it needs immense strength to give up a starry career when you are at the top and even more guts to walk out on your family to be with the man you love." "I look for great characterisation, amazing dialogues and variation in the graph of the character when potraying a role," said the petite actress. Amrita said she would not bracket `Shortkut` as a comedy film. "It has lot of funny elements because Arshad Warsi`s character is very funny and his sensibilities are completely different from mine or Akshaye`s characters. `Shortkut` is a love story, drama and a thriller which will make the audience laugh," she said. Amrita`s last release was `Victory` opposite Hurman Baweja earlier this year. Bureau Report
