Los Angeles: `Kill Bill` star Uma Thurman will play the heroic nun who rescued Ugandan schoolgirls forced into slavery in the film `Girl Soldier` which is based on real life incidents. The Hollywood beauty will star in the drama based on the 1996 incident which saw 140 schoolgirls being abducted from a boarding school in the African country by a band of
armed rebels, reported Variety. The girls were forced to fight as child soldiers or serve as sex slaves. Thurman will play Sister Caroline, a teacher at the school, who tracked the rebels back to their camp and demanded the girls` release. 110 of the girls were returned to the nun, who then began a crusade over the next few years rallying parents, governments, the United Nations and even the Pope to aid in rescuing not only her own girls but other children in rebel captivity. "This is a film that had to get made. It`s beyond me that in this day and age the exploitation of child soldiers goes virtually unnoticed and unchecked by Western media," the actress said about her role. Bureau Report
