Ex-Pak skipper Malik hoping to be selected for UAE series

Islamabad: Former Pakistani captain Shoaib Malik has said that he is hoping for a comeback in the national set-up after he was selected in the preliminary squad for the home series in the United Arab Emirates against South Africa.

An official had claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board`s (PCB) selection committee has produced a list of over 50 players for the back-to-back home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka in the Gulf country, which includes Malik and fellow veteran Abdul Razzaq. According to the Daily Times, following Pakistan losing a Test and an ODI in the recent Zimbabwe tour, both Razzaq and Malik have met with the caretaker chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi and pleaded their cases given that a number of players from the Zimbabwe tour looks likely to be axed. Stating that he has informed the PCB about his form and fitness, Malik however, said that he is not the sort of player who will sit on television channels and plead his case for selection, adding that he believes in performing and letting the selectors do their tasks.
