Former Vidarbha captain Vijay Telang has passed away aged 61, following a brief illness

Nagpur: Former Vidarbha captain Vijay Telang has passed away aged 61, following a brief illness.
Telang, who died yesterday, played first-class cricket between 1970-86, scored 2724 runs in 50 games and also took seven wickets. In April 2012, Telang took over as coach of the Vidarbha Ranji side, after having coached the Under-16 and Under-19 teams for Vidarbha. However, barely four and half months after he took over the reigns of Vidarbha team, the former selector resigned from the coach`s post citing health reasons. Telang`s highest score in first-class cricket is 155 and finished his career with an average of just under 30. Telang also served as a selector in the Vidarbha Cricket Association. PTI
